In developing the budget, we always hope that the tuition increase will be small. We know that in this economy, any increase will be a burden for our school families. Unfortunately, though, three factors this year will result in a significant increase. First, health insurance benefits for full time employees increased over $1000 per person (about 14%). Teachers will receive a 2% increase after having salaries frozen for the 2009-2010 year. These increases are mandated by the Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools. A third factor is based on declining enrollment. Our graduation class has 48 students; our expected kindergarten class will be about 28 students. This means a loss of at least 20 students for 2010-2011. The increases in health insurance and salaries paired with the decline in enrollment represents added expenses of about $100,000 in the 2010-2011 school budget. The parish subsidy (which was over $200,000 last year) is also shrinking based on the projected parish deficit. Funding of $180,000 is all that will be available. While that amount is still extremely generous compared to the subsidies in some of our neighboring parishes, it makes our budgeting even more difficult.
Tuition Assistance: St. Germaine School does offer various programs for tuition assistance for our parents. Programs and requirements do vary, so please contact the school office for additional information.
Extended Day Program Tuition
Only full-time students of St. Germaine School are eligible to participate. Pre-school and half-day kindergarten students are normally not eligible.
The Extended Day Program operates each day Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. For "Half-Day Faculty Meetings" the program operates from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
An annual registration fee of $40.00 per family is assessed at the beginning of the school year. The proceeds from this fee are used to provide "snacks" and other materials used by the students in the program.
Fees for the program are assessed according to the number of children from the family attending:
- $5.00 per hour for one child
- $7.00 per hour for two children
- $8.50 per hour for three of more children
Fees for "partial hours" will be pro-rated to the next quarter hour.
